u 10 Phantoms Season ends with substantial improvement

For a team that gave up many goals during the first few games, the Phantoms toughened up their defense and won their last six games of the season in league.  In the Commissioner's Cup they did not allow a goal in their first two games, winning those games 4-0 and 1-0.  They then held a team that scored five goals against them in the Pumpkin Kick tournament to two goals scored on set plays in the Commissioner's Cup, but could not come up with offsetting goals.  They played against teams that were mostly made up of 10 year olds.  There will be a core group that will play u 11 next year, and a core group that will play u 10 next year.

Five of the boys are continuing with indoor soccer and are joined by new players that would be a great fit in their outdoor teams next year.

The boys had fun, made substantial improvement but have much still to learn.  I look forward to watching their progress.

Crystal Hunting Trip, fundraising, practice

Coach Cooke lead an expedition to the crystal mine near Verdi.  Jesse Villasenor and his son Josh were the crystal locaters.  They opened up a great vug than provided crystals for all who went.

This next weekend, the team gets to earn money for tournaments or other activities by manning the opening soccer day parking fee collection.  The league collect $5.00 per car for parking to help keep the fees low and to maintain the fields and hopefully set aside some money to get lights installed for some of the fields. They will man the gate from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

No practice on Labor day.  Parents need to keep in mind that unexcused absences may affect playing time of their child.  Hope to see everyone on Tuesday and Thursday.  We are now through with practice by 7:15 p.m.  and we will start with players that are there by 5:30 p.m.

We are still working on defensive skills and that will be the emphasis again this week.

Sunday, August 18, 2013

The Phantoms played Natomas in their seeding tournament.  They played well and won both games.

Their next games were in the Land Park Tournament on August 17 and 18.  They played well enough to be competitive but did not win any games.  It was a fun experience and the players worked hard.

Their next event is a crystal hunting trip on August 24 to dog valley and crystal peak.  They should bring hand digging tools including hammers, nail pullers. crowbars, and screw drivers, gloves and be prepared to be in a waterless outdoors for the day.

We will get our schedule this Thursday after practice so it will be available at the crystal trip.

Please work on the homework on your off days.

Coach Phil
